Scott & La Prova wines can be experienced in our Cellar Door in Hahndorf, in the central Adelaide Hills. Scott wines feature classic Adelaide Hills varieties such as Chardonnay and Shiraz alongside newbies like Fiano and an eclectic red blend of Shiraz, Sangiovese, Lagrein and Aglianico. The La Prova label (the trial) is a specialist Italian grape varietal wine range where emerging varieties in Australia, like Aglianico, Pinot Grigio, Garganega, Nero D'Avola, Lagrein, Sangiovese and Montepulciano are made.

Winemaking Notes

Amadio Vineyard, Kersbrook, Adelaide Hills

2016 was a great year for this block of Aglianico, the canopy achieved good growth for ripening and a dry, hot summer pushed things along nicely so for the first time Rosato was not the last fruit into the winery! Equally each year the grapes show very similar characters at harvest and make a strikingly similar wine to the last, with only colour showing the greatest differences.

Again we see the usual suspects of roses, turkish delight and cherries, a soft acid, dry and textural palate with that little bit of grip on the finish that we love. Pale salmon hue in colour.

Aglianico, native to Campania in Italy, is grown here on pretty much my favourite bit of dirt at Kersbrook, in the northern Adelaide Hills. Kersbrook is one of the warmest parts of the Hills and so lends itself to these Southern Italian varieties so well.

Grown and picked early specifically to make Rosato. Its only skin contact is during the truck ride to the winery and is pressed out quickly with about 20% of the juice diverted straight off the press tray for a high solids, wild ferment component in old French oak, which adds some extra texture and the remaining to tank for a cool fermentation to capture the fine aromatics.

Bottled in June 2017.
