WINEMAKING NOTES

Sangiovese is quite a journey! The difference in clones, responses to soil types, rainfall and climate is as extra-ordinary as is the uncanny ability for the variety to show varietal character wherever it is grown too.
The 2017 vintage was long and cool, and it was only with many passes through the vineyard dropping fruit that we could adequately ripen the fruit.
Once harvested the grapes are de-stemmed into an open fermenter and left on skins for long enough, generally just over one month, to enhance the savoury nature of this variety that I love so much.
A bright, fragrant and savoury, medium bodied red. Matured in old French oak and for about 9 months. Bottled February 2018.
